Though I’ve been tested as having the same personality as he is assumed….not sure how I feel about that…

As sarcastic as this meme may seem, whilst at a party I regaled my friends with Caliban’s soliloquy from The Tempest (I cried to dream again, Act 3 Scene 2) and I actually got a girl’s number. Good ol’ Bill, best wingman ever.
Screw it. Being a decent fucking person hasn’t helped. Might as well lower myself to this…

Seriously, though, part of me wonders if the initial idea for this movie was to do a version of The End of the Affair set in modern-day Los Angeles.
Meh, still a good movie.

Well, yes and no. You’re correct in a performative sense, which assumes women “need” men to be chivalrous, thus recapitulating gender scrips on the basis of sex. On the other hand, there is no meaning in the thought “men (sex not gender) should be chivalrous and women (sex not gender) subservient”. A woman can be chivalrous just as much as a man when we pull apart the useless notion masculinity is synonymous with male as femininity is synonymous with female. I see no issue with chivalry from that perspective. If I want to hold to the door for people, I do, and I generally do just that. I am, however, more apt to do such niceties for someone I feel a bond and attraction towards. Just part of who I am as a person, not as a man. If she doesn’t like it, that’s her problem. I’m doing it because I enjoy it, not because she’s a she. And I feel this is just as relevant in LGTB situations. I also should probably state I’m androgynous, the mid-point between masculine and feminine.
