Tumbling over the past year and a half has made me see the problems of gender roles that exist in media, but sometimes it gets to the point where I over analyze every single piece of television or film that I come across. (However this in no way means that I think feminist media criticism is wrong, or should be avoided!) Mostly I just over think everything.

The image I used:

He missed the point entirely and then used that stupid verse that EVERYONE INCLUDING DEVOUT CHRISTIANS breaks.
Stupid.
Stupid.
STUPID.
After this, I had to remove him. I’m tired of ignorance.
I don’t care what your excuses are or who’s name you do it in, ignorance is ignorance is ignorance.
Don’t get me wrong. Christianity is not a bad thing. Being a Christian is NOT a bad thing. But if you ignore all other faiths and just dismiss them as wrong instead of understanding and comparing to your own faith in order to further comprehend your beliefs, you will not ever fully understand your religion, the world around you, or how to truly love your neighbor!

silver-screen-scream-queen replied to your post: Sorry someone called you a homophobe. I have a question about that stuff though, not sure if you can answer it or maybe one of your followers… But, why is making a straight character gay or queer, empowering? It seems to me like you are just forcing something to be when it’s not. Which is more like imagining and living in denial to me… I realize that sounds harsh, but say I want X female character to suddenly want Y female character, though both X and Y are canonly straight. Why is that good
Or being called a misogynist for not liking certain female characters.. Not because they’re female, just because they act shitty.. Apparently it’s okay to dislike shitty male characters, but not female..
I saw a thing going around about how if you supported feminism you should like and support all strong female characters no matter what. It game a list of characters, I forget most, but one of them was Cersei Lannister.
I cant stand Cersei.
I admit shes a strong character, and I will give her her due. But I dont like her. Because shes fucking evil.
But yeah. That “All or nothing” bs pisses me off too.

Jackson Katz, Phd, is an anti-sexist activist and expert on violence, media and masculinities. This Ted Talk was published on February 11th, 2013, and in this he talks about sexism, victim blaming, and what we can do to not remain silent and complacent.
“In the end what will hurt the most is not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” -Martin Luther King Jr.
This is really good. I especially like the use of that quote.
